Extreme Sports
Intrepid Para-gliders first have to be mountain climbers, as they have to climb up the Tequila volcano before throwing themselves into thin air from this 2,920-meter high peak near the town of Tequila where the Mexican national alcoholic beverage is produced. The town of Tequila is located near the Grande de Santiago River canyon and the view as seen from a Para-glider is quite spectacular. Another place for practicing this exciting sport is from the tops of the sierras located between Ajijic and Jocotepec, west of Chapala Lake. The conditions are such that the lake can be "flown over" for several minutes.
Chapala
The rugged hills along the lakeshore between the villages of Chapala and
Jocotepec are the launch site of hang-gliders. The air rising up the sides of
the several hundred-meter hills allow enthusiasts to climb to high altitudes
and glide over the magnificent lake landscape for hours on end.
